Tampere sets record for August events as organisers report strong ticket sales

Tampere is hosting an unprecedented number of events in August, yet organisers report no drop in demand, according to a report by Finnish public broadcaster Yle.

While the Helsinki region’s event market is described as overheated, with some events struggling to sell tickets, Tampere’s organisers say their audiences remain strong. The Tampere City Festival, for example, has sold 90% of its tickets, with the music festival already sold out.

The biggest challenge identified is sufficient accommodation capacity. Taija Holmi, PR manager for Eppu Normaali’s farewell concerts at Ratina Stadium on 6–8 August, said most tickets for all three dates are sold out, though some individual bookings may still be released.

Tampere Theatre Summer, now in its 57th year, expects around 10,000 ticketed visitors, consistent with previous years. Tiina Hurskainen, responsible for communications, noted the city’s growing event calendar but said international highlights have sold even better than before. Tanjalotta Räikkönen, a member of the festival’s artistic leadership, does not believe the crowded schedule will affect attendance.

Other major August events include the Asuntomessut housing fair in Lempäälä (10 July–9 August), Kuninkuusravit trotting races in Teivo (31 July–2 August), and festivals such as Pispala Folk, Saarihelvetti, Blockfest, and Vauhti Kiihtyy. The Festivaali music festival in Pyynikki is already sold out, with artistic director Aki Roukala reporting faster-than-usual ticket sales.

Kalle Keskinen, lead promoter for Tampere City Festival, said the event has already matched last year’s total ticket sales by May, with 35,000 attendees so far and a target of 40,000. He welcomed additional train services by VR, as hotels are fully booked.
