Broken antenna causes water outage in Skipanes and Gøtueiði

About 70 residents in Skipanes and under Gøtueiði experienced a water outage on Sunday evening, according to a report by Faroese public broadcaster KVF.

The outage was not caused by dry conditions or low water levels, but by a technical failure. Jákup Pauli Ternustein, water master in Eysturkommuna, which supplies water to the area, explained that a broken antenna disrupted the signal for an automated system managing three different wells.

The system, which relies on an internet connection, failed when the antenna—likely damaged by strong winds over the weekend—broke. This left one well empty, halting water distribution from the treatment plant in Syðrugøta to the affected areas.

Ternustein manually restored the water supply on Sunday evening. He confirmed to KVF that water pressure has since returned to normal. The antenna will be replaced, and manual operation will continue until then.
