In a recent editorial for the portal’s magazine, Bjørt Samuelsen, the Speaker of the Parliament, discussed the lengthy summer break experienced by lawmakers. The reason the parliament is not in session during the first weeks of August is due to the lack of issues on the agenda, according to Samuelsen.

Members of parliament went on break on May 23, and when the Prime Minister delivered the traditional speech for Ólavsøka, the Speaker, who was present, had no matters to present.

Ingi Samuelsen, who authored the editorial, concluded that despite a long legislative list, the government and coalition have had nothing significant to address or approve.

Bjørt Samuelsen disagrees with this assessment. She reiterated that the parliament is not convening in early August because no topics have yet been submitted for discussion.

Typically, August is a quiet month. However, in previous years, fishing days were often scheduled at this time, generally before August 18. Yet, the parliament no longer sets the date for these fishing days, resulting in a relatively calm month, as detailed by Bjørt Samuelsen.
