A car plowed through the wall of a holiday home in Herand, Ullensvang, on Wednesday afternoon, coming to rest halfway inside the kitchen, Dagbladet reports.
The homeowner, Kirsti Bakke, had just stepped outside onto the terrace when the vehicle struck. “It sounded almost like a bomb going off. The whole house shook,” she said.
Bakke discovered the car had smashed through the exterior wall, destroying the kitchen. A woman and a small child inside the vehicle escaped with minor scratches. No one was seriously injured.
“We’re just relieved no one was badly hurt. This could have ended very differently,” Bakke said.
Police confirmed the driver, a woman, likely lost control of the car. She and the child were taken to Odda Hospital but were not seriously injured. Authorities have ruled out intoxication but seized the driver’s license pending further investigation.
The couple, Kirsti and Magne Bakke, are staying in the damaged house temporarily. A plumber restored water access, and the bathroom and a bedroom remain usable. Repair work has begun, but the kitchen—along with three walls and windows—will require extensive restoration.
“We’ll manage with what we have. We’ll stay until the house is secured,” Bakke said.
