Train travel veteran Per J Andersson, founder of travel magazine Vagabond, says there is no need to avoid flying home after a long rail journey.

“You’ve zigzagged around for three weeks—then you can take the flight back so it doesn’t become too uncomfortable or too much of a sacrifice,” he told SVT’s Morgonstudion on Tuesday.

Andersson shared his top five tips for interrailing: secure an Interrail pass and book seats via rail operators’ apps, avoid tight connections, stop in places along the way, talk to fellow travellers, and “don’t have flight shame.”

He added that after an extended trip with many destinations, it is wise to know when to pause the adventure.
