The Faroese Association of Social Workers has warned that child protection services in Eysturoy and Norðstreymoy are increasingly advertising for non-social workers to fill social worker positions, a move that could compromise professional standards and ultimately harm children, according to association chair Hallbjørg Lamhauge.
Karin Joensen, head of child protection services at the Veks municipal partnership, confirmed that no social workers have applied for the roles, forcing services to seek alternative candidates. She cited excessive workloads on existing staff and called for a review of child protection policies.
The Veks partnership covers Vestmanna, Eiðis, Kvívíkar, and Sunda municipalities.
