Patient records found in dumpster in Pietarsaari

The Ostrobothnia welfare region is investigating how patient documents ended up in a waste container outside Pietarsaari hospital after a passerby noticed papers containing patient information in the bin on Thursday evening, Yle reports.

The papers were collected immediately after the report was made.

Administrative director Linda Jakobsson-Pada said the welfare region has strict guidelines for handling and disposing of confidential information. The incident will be reported to the data protection officer, who may contact affected individuals next week.

The investigation into how the documents ended up in the dumpster will continue on Monday.
