A marine biologist has warned that seabird colonies in the Faroe Islands are under severe pressure from both natural and human-made causes, according to a report by Faroese broadcaster KVF.
Hjálmar Hátún, a marine researcher at the Faroese Marine Research Institute (Havstovan), stated that the decline in seabird populations is driven by a combination of factors. While another biologist, Jóhannis Danielsen, previously suggested to KVF that human activity was the primary cause, Hátún emphasized that both natural and anthropogenic pressures are to blame.
He stressed the need to intensify research into the Faroese seabird colonies, calling it essential to monitor them closely given their precarious state.
