The upcoming housing fair in Lempäälä has not yet stimulated the local property market, according to a statement from Sp-Koti CEO Jukka Rantanen, who also serves on the management board of the cooperative organising the event, Osuuskunta Suomen Asuntomessut.

Rantanen attributes the sluggish market to nationwide weak demand. Finland saw a 13% drop in property sales from January to May compared to the same period last year, with Lempäälä following the trend. However, the average sales time in Lempäälä has shortened by about three weeks, from 122 to 97 days.

Despite the challenging market, Rantanen considers it a success that nearly all plots in Lempäälä have been reserved and that there are significantly more completed show homes than in last year’s host city, Oulu. The fair, running until early August, is expected to attract around 100,000 visitors. Rantanen remains optimistic that the event will boost sales later in the year.

Last year’s fair in Oulu saw a 16.6% increase in sales compared to the previous year.
