Madonna’s latest album, Confessions II, released Friday, blends dancefloor energy with introspective storytelling, winning praise from critics and fans alike, Danish broadcaster DR reports.

Culture journalist and Madonna fan Sarah von Essen of Weekendavisen describes the album as a mix of club beats and personal reflection, noting its ability to turn deep emotions into danceable tracks. Speaking on DR’s P1 Morgen, she praised the album for avoiding spoken-word ballads in favor of upbeat, foot-tapping rhythms.

The 16-track record is a follow-up to her 2005 hit Confessions on a Dance Floor, home to the ABBA-inspired single Hung Up. Like its predecessor, Confessions II delivers danceable anthems while offering glimpses into Madonna’s life and career. The track Danceteria pays tribute to those who helped shape her into the pop queen she became.

Von Essen highlighted the song’s narrative as a “one-to-one account” of Madonna’s rise, calling it a nostalgic yet irresistibly rhythmic homage. She also commended Madonna’s enduring provocative style, noting the singer’s signature bold fashion—such as the pink corset she wore during a surprise Pride concert in Times Square earlier this month—remains unchanged.

At 67, Madonna continues to defy age-related expectations, sparking discussions about societal attitudes toward aging, sexuality, and self-expression. Von Essen framed it as a broader cultural question: “What do we do with all of us who, hopefully, will live long, relatively healthy lives?”

Critics have hailed Confessions II as one of Madonna’s strongest works in decades. The Guardian called it her most vital album in 20 years, while the Telegraph awarded it four out of five stars, declaring she “reclaims her crown” with a “dance party where she is the guest of honor.”
