Nostalgia and catchy pop are drawing adult crowds to Lapland’s summer festivals, with acts like Dingo, Mamba, and Suurlähettiläät headlining stages across the region, Yle reports.

Markku Köngäs, CEO of Eventworks—the organiser behind three major Lapland festivals—said the familiar hits resonate with older audiences in a way newer acts often do not.

“Even people in their 50s can sing along to their songs, unlike with, say, Ares,” Köngäs noted.

Kake Randelin, a staple of the circuit, will perform at four separate festivals, including Santa Open Air in Rovaniemi, which opened the season on Friday. The event runs through the weekend at Sairaalanniemi, with an expected 4,000 attendees per day.

Eventworks has coordinated with Rauhala Events to book artists for overlapping dates, allowing acts like Juha Tapio, Komiat, Yölintu, and Portion Boys to play both Kemijärvi Festival and Twin City Festival in Tornio on the same day. Köngäs said securing certain artists for northern Lapland required booking two shows in one day.

While some Finnish festivals have lowered ticket prices to attract younger crowds, Lapland’s events have held firm. Köngäs argued that Lapland’s two-day passes—capped at €150—remain affordable compared to others, like Ruisrock at €209. Marko Savolainen of Kemijärvi Festival agreed, though Samuli Yliaska, director of Simerock (Lapland’s largest, with 26,000 attendees last year, 19,500 of them adults), suggested prices for his August event could rise in the future.

Lapland’s festival lineup includes Santa Open Air (Rovaniemi, 3–4 July), Twin City Festival (Tornio, 17–18 July), Kemijärvi Festival (17–18 July), Satama Open Air (Kemi, 31 July–1 August), and Simerock (Rovaniemi, 7–8 August).
