Faroe Islands sees 13% rise in new car registrations in first half of 2026

New car registrations in the Faroe Islands rose by 13.2% in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period last year, according to figures from the road traffic authority Akstovan.
A total of 1,166 new cars were registered between January and June, up from 1,030 in the first half of 2025—an increase of 136 vehicles. The growth follows a slower start to the year, with fewer registrations in the first three months.
Used car imports remained nearly flat, with 162 vehicles registered in the first half of 2026, compared to 164 in the same period last year—a rise of just 1%.
