The Faroese government has announced plans to close the public works department at Landsverk, the national public infrastructure agency, but the decision has met with strong opposition in the Løgting (Faroese parliament).

Opposition parties have questioned the move, with Jenis av Rana of the Centre Party arguing the government acted too hastily. Sámal Petur í Grund, leader of the Self-Government Party, has instead proposed strengthening Landsverk.

Sirið Stenberg, leader of the Republic party, stated that steps must be taken to improve the procurement process, while Ruth Vang of the Progress Party said she does not oppose the use of private contractors, provided there is no conflict of interest.

The government has acknowledged issues with public procurement but claims changes are being made to address them.
