Blue-green algae have been observed less frequently in Finland’s inland waters compared to typical seasonal patterns, according to the Finnish Environment Institute (Syke). Windy and rainy weather has restrained the proliferation of blue-green algae and reduced the formation of blooms.

Observations of blue-green algae have mainly been reported in Varsinais-Suomi, Uusimaa, and Pirkanmaa, with some individual sightings in various parts of Central Finland. Syke noted that no sites participating in the national blue-green algae monitoring reported extremely high levels of the algae.

The condition of blue-green algae along the coast remains relatively typical for this time of year, and the number of blooms has decreased since last week, as reported by Syke.
