Emma Røsand received a digital mail notification from Norwegian authorities and assumed it concerned the man recently convicted of her brutal rape, Dagbladet reports.

Instead, the 25-year-old learned she had been reported to police for “reckless behaviour” — a case already dropped on 15 June.

“It was like a stab to the heart,” Røsand said. After reading the letter stating the case was closed, she began to laugh in disbelief.

Days later, after requesting access to the police file, she discovered the complaint had come from her rapist, identified only as Pablo. Police confirmed to Dagbladet that the case was dismissed because there was “no reasonable basis to investigate a criminal offence.”

Røsand had publicly named Pablo in a social media post about her assault the same day the complaint was filed. She told the paper she still does not understand why she cannot identify her attacker.

Pablo was sentenced to four years in prison for the rape, which Oslo District Court described as particularly brutal with sadistic elements, including strangulation and death threats. The verdict is final after appeals were rejected.
