Heifer named Unssi still missing after escape in Ranua, Finland

At the beginning of July, an aggressive heifer named Unssi escaped and is still missing, according to its owner, dairy farmer Aleksi Kortesalmi from Ranua in South Lapland. “We haven’t actively searched for it because the woods here are vast. We might check the nearby forests soon when we have the time,” Kortesalmi said.

Unssi was en route to be transported to the Korteniemi farm when it escaped just as it was supposed to be moved from the transport vehicle to the barn. The animal resisted capture and exhibited threatening behavior multiple times. Due to concerns for safety, Kortesalmi decided that if Unssi is found, it should be euthanized and sent to slaughter.

He also warned that Unssi could potentially harm a person if it feels threatened. Experts suggest that the heifer may be experiencing stress from the transportation and the unfamiliar environment.

About two weeks ago, there was a reported sighting of Unssi in the Oijärvi area of Ii in Northern Ostrobothnia, but since then, Kortesalmi has not received any further reports.
