MPK receives new Sako rifles for training purposes in Finland

The Defence Forces Training Association (MPK) has received its first batch of new Sako rifles for training purposes, with the remaining rifles set to be delivered in the autumn. The acquisition agreement was established in the spring of last year, with a total value of approximately 1.6 million euros.

In a press release, MPK noted a significant increase in demand for its weapons and shooting training since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The new Sako rifles will enhance the current armaments. According to MPK’s Executive Director Antti Lehtisalo, “With the arrival of these new weapons for training purposes, we can better meet the high demand for training across the country.”

MPK reports that the Sako weapon has been specifically designed for reservists’ training use. It is a self-loading, single-fire weapon resembling the AR-15 type, featuring a 16-inch barrel and chambered in .223 REM. Additionally, the rifle is compatible with the 5.56 x 45 NATO cartridge.

Lehtisalo describes the new MPK rifle as user-friendly, making it suitable for both experienced shooters and beginners. The delivery of the rifles was first reported by the magazine Reserviläinen.
