Imatran kylpylä spa in Finland is testing a new concept with its first adults-only pool party, the spa’s new CEO Timo Welsby told Yle.

The event, restricted to guests aged 18 and over, begins Friday with a DJ performing in the spa’s Taikametsä section and alcoholic drinks served poolside. Tens of tickets had been sold by Wednesday, Welsby said.

The spa, which entered corporate restructuring at the start of the year, has struggled alongside other tourism businesses in eastern Finland due to the closed eastern border. Welsby, who starts as CEO next week, said the summer season starting after Midsummer is the busiest period for the spa.

He added that the new management team is exploring ways to attract visitors outside peak seasons, with the adults-only party emerging as one idea. “If the event succeeds, or even if it doesn’t, we’ll gain experience,” Welsby said.
