Smyril Line has taken delivery of the Ro-Ro cargo ship Akranes from the CIMC Raffles shipyard in Yantai, China, KVF reports.
Akranes is the second of two new cargo ships ordered by the company. It will be loaded in China next week before heading to Europe.
The first ship, Skipanes, remains in Hong Kong for repairs after a fire in its engine room on September 2, shortly after it left the shipyard bound for the Faroe Islands. Repairs are expected to be completed in late November.
The sister ships will both join Smyril Line’s existing route network. The investment in Skipanes and Akranes totals more than one billion kroner.
