New Aalborg hospital expects to handle heatwave without extreme indoor temperatures
The new university hospital in Aalborg is expected to weather this weekend’s heatwave without the extreme indoor temperatures previously reported, according to project director Asger Schou.
Since May, technical staff have repaired nearly all window blinds to block sunlight and fine-tuned ventilation systems, eliminating the need for makeshift solutions like paper or trash bags in windows.
Schou acknowledged the building was designed for outdoor temperatures up to 26°C, meaning indoor conditions cannot be kept as cool as desired. However, he aims to keep indoor temperatures below 27°C.
Additional measures include distributing sheets instead of blankets, providing extra water to patients, and keeping windows, curtains, and blinds closed to block heat. Staff have been instructed to prioritize patient comfort amid the extreme conditions.
While most of the hospital’s 6,000-plus rooms are expected to maintain acceptable climates, Schou did not rule out isolated issues.
