Swedish Democrat MP Tobias Andersson has dismissed reports of a power struggle within the party, according to SVT’s Politikbyrån.

Citing multiple sources, Dagens Nyheter reported that a conflict erupted in autumn 2025, with party figures Aron Emilsson and Julia Kronlid facing calls to be removed from the party board following pressure from Andersson, who chairs the Riksdag’s business committee. Party leader Jimmie Åkesson, then on holiday in Thailand, reportedly blocked the move.

Several central party sources interpreted the manoeuvre as the start of a coup attempt to replace key leadership figures, leaving Andersson now sidelined, Dagens Nyheter reported.

Andersson denied the allegations, stating he would have openly argued for a different party board at the party’s national meeting if that had been his intention. “Am I known for sneaking around in the shadows? I’m usually quite clear about my opinions,” he said.

He suggested the sources in the article were likely seeking to undermine his role ahead of potential ministerial appointments in autumn. “Dagens Nyheter is allowing itself to be used by maybe one or a couple of people who don’t like me,” Andersson said.

“Nothing has been revealed in Dagens Nyheter today,” he added.
