All flights to and from Nuuk have been cancelled for the rest of Sunday due to strong winds, Air Greenland announced on its website, according to Greenlandic media outlet Sermitsiaq.

The airline stated it is working to rearrange schedules for affected passengers but warned that the process will take time, as all travel plans must be adjusted. Passengers have been asked to wait for further updates.

Winds in Nuuk are reaching gusts of up to 21 metres per second, accompanied by driving rain. Earlier in the day, a flight attempted to land in Nuuk but was unable to do so. The aircraft has since diverted to Keflavík Airport in Iceland to refuel before continuing to Copenhagen.

Air Greenland also reported difficulties securing available hotel rooms for stranded passengers in Nuuk and Ilulissat, advising affected travellers to arrange their own accommodation.

The severe weather has disrupted events marking Greenland’s National Day. Competitions in traditional Greenlandic dress and a seal hunt, both scheduled in Nuuk, have been cancelled, though other events, such as a kaffemik at the local museum, proceeded as planned.
