Denmark’s dry summer weather has raised the wildfire risk to high in several regions, according to the country’s Agency for Emergency Management.
The agency’s fire danger index, which forecasts the risk of natural fires, lists West Zealand, the Copenhagen area, eastern Funen, Aarhus, and Aalborg among the affected areas. A “high” classification means even a single ember or small flame can ignite a blaze.
Other parts of North and West Jutland, Funen, and Zealand face a moderate risk, where ignition from embers or small flames is rare.
To prevent fires, the agency advises keeping a safe distance from vegetation, ensuring barbecues or bonfires are fully extinguished, and having water nearby when using open flames.
A wildfire broke out Saturday in Tisvilde Hegn forest in North Zealand, covering about 2,000 square metres. Emergency crews extinguished the flames by 18:30, though the cause remains under investigation.
