Volvo is recalling 64,000 plug-in hybrid vehicles globally, including 4,523 in Sweden, due to a manufacturing defect that may cause fires, SVT Nyheter reports.

The recall affects Volvo XC40 T4 and T5 Plug-in Hybrid models from 2020, 2021, and 2022. A fault in the battery system can lead to overheating when fully charged, potentially causing the vehicle to catch fire.

Owners are urged to stop charging their cars with a cable until an inspection is completed. No injuries have been reported so far, according to Volvo.

Volvo’s PR chief Magnus Holst told Carup that the company advises owners to take the safety recommendations seriously.
