The Faroese Ministry of Labour has reduced the mandatory fallowing period for salmon farms after an ILA outbreak from six months to three months, according to a new amendment to the 2005 regulations on culling and monitoring of the disease.
ILA (Infectious Salmon Anaemia) is a serious viral disease affecting farmed salmon. Under previous rules, farms where the disease was confirmed had to remain fallow for six months following culling. The change takes effect the day after its announcement.
