Bakkafrost, faroe islands, layoffs

Bakkafrost will lay off nearly 100 employees at its processing plant in Glyvrum, the Faroese public broadcaster KVF reports.

The company is increasing salmon production, and a single shift can no longer handle the workload. Previously, work extended into evenings and weekends, but the plant will now operate with two shifts: a day shift and an evening shift.

Heini Kristiansen, the company’s operations manager, noted that Bakkafrost had two shifts at the Glyvrum processing plant a few years ago. When tariffs rose, the company decided to reduce staff. Now, more work is required at the facility.
