new prison planned for áir in sunda municipality

A public meeting will be held next week in Nesvík to discuss a new prison facility to be built in Áir, replacing the current detention centre in Mjørkadalur, Kringvarp Føroya reports.

The 16 June meeting, organised by Sunda municipality and Denmark’s prison service, follows what mayor Eyðstein Zachariasen describes as overwhelmingly positive feedback from local residents. He adds that the project will create jobs and other economic activity in the area.

The meeting begins at 19:30 in Leguhúsið.
