The Faroe Islands’ health authority has assessed the risk of the ebola virus reaching the archipelago as very low, according to a statement issued Monday by public broadcaster KVF.
Travellers arriving from the Democratic Republic of Congo or Uganda must monitor their health for 21 days and seek immediate medical advice if they develop fever or other symptoms, the authority said. Those returning from affected regions should also check the Danish foreign ministry’s travel advisories at [um.dk](https://um.dk).
Ebola spreads only through direct contact with bodily fluids from an infected person or animal, and no cases have been confirmed outside the outbreak zone in Central Africa, the health authority noted. While the World Health Organization (WHO) considers the regional risk high, both the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and Danish health officials judge the likelihood of transmission to Denmark or the EU as minimal.
