Multiple collisions cause heavy delays on E6 highway toward Oslo
Several traffic accidents on Sunday have disrupted travel on Norway’s E6 highway in the direction of Oslo, creating long queues, according to reports from Dagbladet.
The first incident occurred near Årum in Fredrikstad, where a car and a motorcycle collided during a lane change, Øst Police District confirmed shortly before 3:30 p.m. The motorcyclist was transported to Østfold Hospital for treatment. Police reported no immediate road closures, but the crash contributed to significant congestion.
A second accident was reported at 5:33 p.m. in Råde, also on the E6 toward Oslo. Authorities confirmed no injuries, though the left lane was temporarily closed, further slowing traffic.
Christofa Key-Nilsen of the Øst Traffic Control Centre attributed the heavy traffic to weekend travel patterns, noting that many drivers who left Oslo on Friday were returning on Sunday. While one earlier crash in Moss had been cleared, its effects lingered in northbound traffic.
Aleksander Skårvik, a traffic operator, told Dagbladet that congestion from the first accident had begun to ease before the second collision created new delays. “It’s causing some traffic issues,” he said, confirming that while the left lane remained closed, vehicles were still passing the scene.
