Swedish police warn students: break truck parade rules and the whole class may be removed
Swedish high school graduates risk having their entire truck parades shut down if they violate safety and conduct rules during celebrations, a senior community police officer has warned.
Ola Åkesson, a community police officer, told public broadcaster SVT that while graduation truck parades—known locally as studentflak—are a tradition, students must follow strict regulations or face penalties. “Of course you should party and have fun. It’s a day to remember. But don’t take it too far. Show consideration for the public. Take responsibility for your actions,” Åkesson said.
Police will monitor parades nationwide to enforce compliance, he added. Violations can result in fines, and in severe cases, officers may halt the truck entirely, forcing all students to disembark. “Historically, there have been quite a few accidents involving these trucks and trailers. We don’t want to end up there,” Åkesson said.
Rules cover everything from vehicle safety standards to student behavior, though specific criteria were not detailed in the report. Åkesson urged graduates to prioritize safety, noting that excessive alcohol consumption or reckless conduct could trigger police intervention.
