Six drownings reported in Finland in May, preliminary figures show
Six people drowned in Finland last month, according to preliminary statistics released Friday by the Finnish Lifesaving and Lifeguarding Federation (SUH). The figure marks an increase of four compared to May 2025.
Two of the drownings occurred in eastern Finland, two in the southwest, one in the south, and one in Lapland. Four were linked to boating activities.
From January through May this year, 23 people have drowned nationwide, down from 32 during the same period in 2025. The federation compiles its preliminary data from open government sources and media reports.
