Authorities in Janakkala are investigating the recent collapse of a mobile phone tower that occurred during the night between Sunday and Monday. Incidents of mobile towers falling are rare. However, Hämeen Sanomat reported in 2005 that another tower, located about 10 kilometers from the recent incident, also fell under similar circumstances. MTV Uutiset was the first to cover the 2005 story.
The 2005 case shares several similarities with the current investigation. It involved a tower situated between the neighborhoods of Ruununmylly and Mäskälä in Hämeenlinna, which is roughly ten kilometers from the site of the Janakkala incident. In both cases, the towers were brought down by cutting the supporting guy wires. The 2005 tower was 86 meters tall, of which approximately 18 meters remained standing after the collapse. In contrast, the Janakkala tower fell completely, landing on the forest floor.
As of now, there is no information regarding whether the individuals responsible for the 2005 tower’s collapse were ultimately apprehended.
