Child dies after being struck by bus in Turku’s Varissuo district

A preschool-aged child was killed after being hit by a bus in Turku on Wednesday evening, according to a report by Finnish public broadcaster Yle.

The incident occurred just after 8 pm at the intersection of Littoistentie and Karvataskunkatu, where the child was struck on a pedestrian crossing. The Southwestern Finland Police confirmed the child died at the scene.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the bus driver on suspicion of aggravated endangerment of traffic safety and aggravated vehicular homicide. A forensic examination to determine the exact cause of death is underway.
