Bryndís Haraldsdóttir, chair of the Nordic Council, is sounding the alarm as both the Faroe Islands and Greenland threaten to withdraw from Nordic cooperation.
“This must not happen,” she stated in an interview with Morgunblaðið.
Haraldsdóttir, who attended the Ólavsøka festival, referenced comments made by the Faroese Prime Minister in his speech yesterday. He mentioned that the people of the Faroe Islands are beginning to lose patience with the Nordic Council.
“For half a century, we have sought full membership—this has been in vain,” the Prime Minister remarked.
Haraldsdóttir supports the Faroe Islands’ bid for full membership. Meanwhile, Mute B. Egede, the head of the Greenlandic government, has announced his intention to no longer participate in Nordic cooperation.
Haraldsdóttir warns that the Faroe Islands may follow suit if the situation does not improve.
“We should include both the Faroe Islands and Greenland,” she affirmed in her conversation with Morgunblaðið.
