The Faroese national treasury closed 2025 with an 11 million krona surplus, according to the finalised accounts published by the Finance Council.
The approved budget for 2025 had projected a 120 million krona deficit, with additional allocations of 27 million krona and 9 million krona carried over from previous years, totalling 156 million krona in planned shortfall. Actual performance exceeded expectations by 167 million krona, driven by 92 million krona in higher-than-forecast revenue and 75 million krona in lower-than-budgeted expenditures.
Total revenue from taxes, fees, state subsidies, and other sources reached approximately 7.5 billion krona, matching total expenditures of the same amount. The result marks an improvement over 2024, when the treasury recorded a 172 million krona deficit.
