Faroe Islands prime minister appoints new economic council

Prime Minister Beinir Johannesen has named seven members to the Faroe Islands’ economic council, a four-year advisory body that will guide fiscal policy, state broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reported Monday.

The council’s primary members are Malan Johansen, director of the Faroese National Bank; Torben Magnus Andersen, a professor at Aarhus University; Marita Rasmussen, director of the Faroese Marine Research Institute; Herit Albinus, a researcher at the University of the Faroe Islands; Jógvan Thomsen, director of the Faroese Labour Agency; and Guðmundur Effersøe Nónstein, an advisor at the Financial Supervisory Authority.

Alternate members include Ester Hansen, an advisor at the National Bank; Björn Rúnar Guðmundsson, an economist at Iceland’s Directorate of Fisheries; Ragnfríð Nord Anthoniussen, a representative of the Labour Market Council; and Jóanna Djurhuus, a department head at the Labour Market Council.

The appointments follow nominations from the National Bank, the Business Council, and the minister of labour.
