Parents in Greenland who lose a child are calling for paid leave to grieve, a right already granted in Denmark, according to a report by Danish broadcaster DR.

Under Danish law, bereaved parents are entitled to six months of leave following the death of a child. Greenlandic families now urge local authorities to adopt similar provisions, arguing the current lack of formal support compounds their grief.

The push follows accounts from parents in Greenland who describe being forced to return to work shortly after their loss, leaving them without time to process their bereavement.

Greenland, an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, sets its own labour policies but often aligns with Danish standards in social welfare.
