A moose has been sighted near Hellebæk Kohave in North Zealand, Danish public broadcaster DR reports, marking one of only about 10 confirmed crossings from Sweden in the past 50 years.

The animal was first recorded in a video shared on Facebook Friday morning, prompting Naturstyrelsen (the Danish Nature Agency) to investigate. Jan Kidholm, a senior advisor with the agency, called the event “fascinating,” noting that moose occasionally swim across the Øresund strait from southern Sweden.

“This one is likely a yearling pushed out by its mother to make way for a new calf,” Kidholm told DR. “It probably didn’t find its surroundings very appealing.”

The last confirmed moose in the area appeared in 2018, lingering for several weeks before disappearing. Authorities have issued no formal warnings but urge drivers to reduce speed in wooded areas, where the animal may be difficult to spot.
