Heavy thunderstorms in Oulu late Monday afternoon led to significant street flooding in various areas. Following intense rainfall, water accumulation caused severe disruptions to vehicular traffic in the Oulu urban area shortly after 3:30 PM. Social media platforms have seen numerous reports of flooded streets and yards in central Oulu.
In previous years, heavy rain has resulted in railway underpasses quickly filling with water, but that was not the case this time. The rainwater also prompted response activities from the local fire department. A detached rainwater pipe caused water damage at the shopping center Valkea, located in the city center, as 1 to 2 cubic meters of water overflowed into the property. Firefighters were dispatched to remove the water that had spilled onto the floor.
Images from the scene show flooded roads and accumulating puddles, reflecting the impact of the sudden downpour on daily life in Oulu.
