Nearly 600 pilot whales were killed in three separate hunts across the Faroe Islands on Wednesday, Faroese public broadcaster KVF reported.

A pod of 350 long-finned pilot whales was driven ashore at Sandagerði, where the meat will be divided between participants and local residents. Distribution permits for the hunt are expected to be issued at 9 a.m. local time. Unlike traditional practice, the meat will not be allocated at a designated distribution site; instead, residents of Tórshavn municipality can collect their shares directly from the butchering location, which is believed to be near Vestaru bryggja.

An additional 150 white-sided dolphins were killed in Skálafjørður, while 80 more died in Streymnes. Sunda municipality has asked residents to monitor its website for details on permit distribution and meat collection.
