Faroe Islands unemployment falls to 335 in April

Unemployment in the Faroe Islands dropped to 335 people in April, a decrease of 60 from the same month last year, according to new figures from the Faroese statistics agency Hagstovan.

The unemployment rate stood at 0.9%, down 0.2 percentage points from April 2025. Full-time unemployment accounted for 286 individuals, a decline of 47 year-on-year. Men represented 100 more cases than women among the unemployed.

The highest unemployment was recorded in Suðuroy, while Vágar had the lowest. The 25–34 age group saw the most joblessness, with eight individuals unemployed for over a year.

Long-term unemployment—defined as over 365 days—affected 45 people, or 13% of the total unemployed.

Maximum unemployment benefits rose on 11 May following new union agreements. The daily rate increased from 1,064 DKK to 1,092 DKK, marking a 4,513 DKK (25%) rise since March 2025. The benefit now covers 80% of the base salary for permanent employees.
