A psychiatrist accused of murdering his wife in Ullanlinna, Helsinki, has been found to be of sound mind during the commission of the crime, according to the Helsinki District Court. This determination confirms that the accused was fully aware of his actions when he allegedly caused his wife’s death.

The Health and Welfare Institute provided a statement to the court regarding the mental health evaluation. According to the charges, the man killed his wife in their shared home on December 16, 2022. The mental health evaluation was initiated during the preliminary investigation phase. In a provisional ruling issued in January of this year, the court mandated a continuation of the psychiatric assessment.

The court noted in its interim ruling that the psychiatrist acted in a manner consistent with the allegations, which constitute a criminal offense. The prosecution claims that the defendant premeditated the act, although this has not been definitively proven. The prosecution also alleges that the man inflicted repeated, severe violence to his wife’s head and body.

While the man has admitted to causing his wife’s death, he denies the murder charge, asserting that it was an accident. The final verdict is expected to be delivered at the end of August.
