Temperatures near 25°C recorded across Finland as summer warmth arrives
Temperatures climbed to near 25°C in parts of Finland on Saturday, with Helsinki-Vantaa Airport reporting 24.6°C at 3:30 pm, according to public broadcaster Yle.
Earlier in the day, central Helsinki saw highs of 21.7°C, drawing residents outdoors to terraces, boats, and ice cream stands. Some took advantage of the warmth to air out rugs. By afternoon, however, temperatures in the capital dipped back below 20°C.
The unseasonable heat extended as far north as southern Lapland, where Rovaniemi recorded 23.3°C on Friday—the highest in the country that day. While Saturday’s readings approached May’s historical extremes, they fell short of the all-time record of 31°C, set in Lapinjärvi in late May 1995.
Forecasts call for a shift on Sunday, with rain expected across much of Finland and temperatures dropping below 15°C in wetter regions.
