Correction: women’s suicide count not rising

A previous Yle report incorrectly stated that the number of women dying by suicide in Finland had begun to rise. The newspaper has now corrected the story, clarifying that it is the loss of life years due to women’s suicides that has increased, not the absolute count.

The correction was prompted by a recent study from FCG Finnish Consulting Group. According to Statistics Finland, the annual number of women’s suicides has fluctuated throughout the 2020s. In 2024, 184 women died by suicide, down from 197 the previous year.
