Auris Energia aims to start Säkylä biogas production in summer 2029
Auris Energia expects to begin production at its planned biogas plant in Säkylä, southwest Finland, in the summer of 2029, with a final investment decision scheduled for early next year, the company said in a statement reported by Finnish broadcaster Yle.
The company said basic design for the plant is complete and binding bids from technology suppliers have been received. The project timeline has slipped because of the addition of a biogenic carbon dioxide capture unit to the plans. A ministerial funding decision for the capture unit is expected by the end of 2026.
Without the CO₂ capture system, the plant has been estimated to cost around 50 million euros. An environmental impact assessment is under way, with two possible sites under consideration on the Länsi-Säkylä industrial estate. The assessment is due to be finished this autumn, after which a public hearing will be held.
The Säkylä project also includes building a roughly 30-kilometre gas pipeline from Länsi‑Säkylä via Eura to the Harjavalta industrial park.
