Denmark’s acting business minister, Morten Bødskov, has asked the financial supervisory authority to prepare a report on a multi-hour outage at payment processor Nets on Thursday, the Danish broadcaster DR reported.
“It is serious that we are again experiencing a major breakdown in Nets’ systems,” Bødskov said in a written statement. The outage caused disruptions across the country, affecting everything from train ticket purchases to parking garage exits, and also left Danes abroad unable to withdraw cash or make payments.
The incident comes about 10 months after a similar three-hour outage on July 19, 2025, which led to queues at the Great Belt Bridge and resulted in Nets receiving a supervisory order for its crisis communication.
Jacob Kjeldsen, branch director at the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI) for trade, said the repeated breakdowns highlight “the need for a more robust and resilient payment infrastructure” and raised concerns about “excessive dependence and continued vulnerability.”
Nets press chief Søren Winge said the company had since worked to promote offline payment options and improved communication during Thursday’s fault. “It is of course a very regrettable feeling we are left with today,” he said. The outage began around 9 a.m. and Nets reported the system stable from 5:10 p.m.
