Gunilla von Platen has accused the leadership of Lundsberg boarding school of lying to Sweden’s Schools Inspectorate (Skolinspektionen), according to a report by SVT Nyheter.
Von Platen’s son was welcomed back to the school with a racist sign on his door, she said in the SVT documentary “Dokument inifrån: Arvtagarna”. When the inspectorate later asked the school’s director about the incident, he said he had no knowledge of it. “That is a pure lie,” von Platen said.
In January 2025, five students at Lundsberg were reported to police for assault. One of them was von Platen’s son. He and three others were later convicted of assault and unlawful entry, but have appealed. The incident led the son to recount violence and racism he himself had experienced at the school.
Von Platen and her husband Alfred said they raised these matters with the school’s director via multiple emails over several years but received almost no response. They eventually filed a complaint with the inspectorate. Inspectorate notes record the director saying he was unaware of the racist sign on the door, despite the von Platens having informed him repeatedly.
Hanna Kindén, a unit head at the inspectorate, acknowledged the risk that a culture of silence at Lundsberg may have affected its investigation. She said the inspectorate sent an anonymous survey before its visit and made an inspector available for individual or paired conversations. The inspectorate’s review concluded that Lundsberg must improve its work against and reporting of violations.
Lundsberg’s director Lars Jonsson told the documentary that the inspectorate had closed its review and was satisfied with the school’s measures. He said the school maintains a dialogue with all parents and investigates everything that comes up. SVT said it had also contacted Jonsson with questions about the alleged lie to the inspectorate.
