Temperatures could exceed 25 degrees over Norway’s Whitsun holiday weekend
Norway could see temperatures above 25 degrees Celsius this week, with the warmest conditions expected during the Whitsun holiday weekend, according to Dagbladet.
May temperatures across Norway from Bodø southward have so far been below average this year, according to the Norwegian Meteorological Institute. However, a warm spell is now forecast for the eastern and southern parts of the country.
“The Whitsun weekend looks very good,” duty meteorologist Siri Wiberg told Dagbladet on Monday evening. “It could reach 25 degrees, perhaps more. It is very promising,” she said, referring to the warm weather expected to arrive on Thursday and Friday.
The warmest conditions on Whit Sunday are forecast for southern and eastern Norway, with temperatures exceeding 20 degrees in many places. Western Norway will also see warm air moving in, but onshore winds and cloud cover are expected to limit the temperature rise there compared to the east.
For the Trøndelag region in central Norway, the best weather is expected in the coming days before conditions change. “They have quite nice weather now, but this turns on Thursday. Then a low-pressure system and several fronts arrive,” Wiberg said.
The same pattern applies to Nordland. In Troms and Finnmark in the far north, temperatures are also expected to rise, but low pressure and onshore winds are forecast there as well. The Meteorological Institute forecasts temperatures of between 12 and 15 degrees in the north from Tuesday.
