Icelandair searches for missing luggage after Barcelona flight

Barcelona Airport, Icelandair, missing luggage

Icelandair staff are doing everything they can to locate the luggage of doctor Ásgeir Theódórsson and his wife, Björg Kristjánsdóttir, the airline’s communications officer Guðni Sigurðsson told mbl.is.

The couple flew from Keflavík to Barcelona on August 6 for Björg’s 80th birthday. Their bags did not arrive when they landed, reportedly because of a strike by baggage handlers at Barcelona Airport that began the same day.

“We are very sorry that the passenger has still not received his luggage. There have been frequent strikes by airport staff in Spain this summer, which have affected baggage handling,” Sigurðsson said.

He said Icelandair staff had worked hard to keep passengers informed about the situation, but that efforts were still under way to deliver the remaining bags to their owners.

“We are reviewing this specific case with our service providers in Barcelona and hope to resolve it as soon as possible,” Sigurðsson said.

Ásgeir and Björg returned to Iceland on August 14. When Ásgeir spoke to mbl.is the following day, they still had no information about what had happened to their luggage.
