Two arson attacks and a shooting may be linked to criminal conflict in central Jutland
Two suspected arson attacks in Ikast and a shooting in Herning may be part of a criminal dispute in central Jutland, according to Midt- og Vestjyllands Police. Authorities describe the incidents as “very serious.”
Police received reports of two fires in Ikast on Tuesday evening, just one minute apart. The first blaze occurred in a residential building on Strøget, where a 68-year-old woman suffered severe burns and was airlifted to Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen for treatment. She is now out of danger. The second fire destroyed a vehicle near a home on Falkevej.
“We are investigating under the assumption that both fires were deliberately set,” said Hans Roost, head of investigation and prevention at Midt- og Vestjyllands Police. “This is extremely serious, and our team is working to secure all available evidence.”
The same evening, police cordoned off an area near Brændgårdsparken in Herning after two shots were fired at an apartment. No injuries were reported.
Authorities are treating the two arsons and the shooting as connected incidents. “The timing of these three events leads us to investigate them as part of the same case,” Roost said.
Preliminary findings suggest the incidents may stem from an internal conflict within criminal groups. “This is a line of inquiry we were already pursuing, but last night’s events will intensify our efforts,” Roost added.
While the conflict appears internal, police warn that innocent bystanders could be affected. “For example, we have no reason to believe the burned vehicle was linked to anyone involved in this dispute,” Roost noted.
The investigation remains a top priority for Midt- og Vestjyllands Police.
